Theme Announcement
Rushville, Illinois — The Smiles Day Committee is excited to announce the theme for the 2026 Smiles Day celebration: "Remembering Rushville's 200 Years of Smiles."
This year's celebration will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026, and will honor the City of Rushville's Bicentennial, celebrating 200 years of history, community, and hometown pride.
The theme invites residents, businesses, organizations, schools, and parade participants to reflect on the people, places, traditions, and memories that have made Rushville a special place over the past two centuries. From its rich history to the generations of families who have called Rushville home, the day will celebrate the countless smiles that have shaped the community since its founding in 1826.
Rushville was established as the county seat of the newly created Schuyler County and was named in honor of Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a prominent physician, educator, and civic leader. Over the past two centuries, Rushville has grown into a close-knit community while preserving the traditions and values that have defined its rich heritage.
This year's Smiles Day celebration also recognizes America's 250th anniversary, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. As communities across the nation celebrate this historic milestone, Rushville is uniquely positioned to honor both the nation's semiquincentennial and the city's bicentennial. Together, these anniversaries provide an opportunity to reflect on the shared values of freedom, service, perseverance, and community that have shaped both our country and our hometown for generations.
Smiles Day has long been one of Rushville's favorite annual traditions, bringing the community together for a day filled with entertainment, family activities, local organizations, and the beloved Smiles Day Parade. This year's bicentennial theme provides a unique opportunity for participants to creatively showcase Rushville's heritage while celebrating its bright future.
The Smiles Day Committee encourages parade entries, floats, businesses, civic groups, churches, schools, and community organizations to incorporate the theme "Remembering Rushville's 200 Years of Smiles" into their decorations and displays.
Additional information about Smiles Day activities, entertainment, parade registration, and event schedules will be announced in the coming weeks.
