Dear Smiles Day Supporter:
Smiles Day began in Rushville, Illinois in 1919, as our local World War I veterans were returning home at the end of the war. This celebration has continued annually for 100 years, except for a few years during World War II when a large percentage of the Schuyler County population was again serving our country. To help commemorate this special milestone in 2019, the Smiles Day committee is planning an extended weekend of events to honor veterans and celebrate Rushville and Schuyler County.
For the first time, the Smiles Day committee is seeking the financial support from our local businesses, families, and individuals to make this centennial celebration an unforgettable experience for everyone. With your support, more events and special activities are possible at no cost to all those who attend. In much appreciation, the Smiles Day committee would promote your business/name in various ways.
The dates for our centennial celebration are:
Friday & Saturday September 20th & 21st, 2019
The Smiles Day committee have many activities booked to help honor our Veterans and active military. Not to list them all, but some of those include serving breakfast & lunch to all Veterans and active military, bringing the traveling Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall to Rushville, inviting the Illinois Governor and other high ranking individuals from across the great state of Illinois, hosting a battle of the bands, inviting more participants to join our grand parade, and also bringing back some activities from Smiles Day’s past. Food and non food vendors as well as a larger carnival will be up town for the public to enjoy for both Friday and Saturday. In 1967, Smiles Day merged with the Rushville Homecoming celebration, but it has always been our mission and goal to honor our active military personnel and Veterans.
Please consider using the attached sponsorship form and help us make the Centennial Smiles Day celebration the best we possibly can!
Thank you in advance for your time and contribution. Have a wonderful & safe 2019!
